THE PROGRAM
ALCAN is designed to cater to the individual
skills of hockey. We are committed to creating the foundation for the
complete
hockey player, through the instructional teaching of specific hockey
skills.
At ALCAN we emphasize our self-described S.C.R.U.F.F. system.
This
includes Skills, Creativity, Respect, Understanding, Foundation, &
Fun. We maintain an individualized format, in order that our
participants
challenge themselves, not compete with the others. The main emphasis of
teaching is placed on Skating, Shooting, & Stickhandling..
With the overwhelming response to the Full Day program, we have been
able
to focus on the importance of Safety & Respect. We provide the
atmosphere needed
by all young players to establish safety & respect for the other
players on and
off the ice, the instructors, and the game of hockey.
ALCAN HOCKEY ACADEMY
The ALCAN Hockey
Academy is the classroom
component
of the camp which we provide between ice sessions. In this setting,
players
will use their ALCAN ACTIVITY BOOK to participate in daily activities
that will be fun and informative.
Hockey Ethics, Safety & Respect will be discussed, as well as Off
Ice
Training Skills.
FULL DAY PROGRAM
The Full Day Program
is a comprehensive camp
that includes Full Time supervision by members of the ALCAN staff. The
first ice session is designed to focus on the Skill of the Day. The
players
will then participate in a classroom style Hockey Academy session that
will include fun and enriching cooperative activities which complement
the day’s topic. After a break for lunch, off-ice fitness training will
include techniques that pertain to fitness development and team
building. After a break, the players will return to the ice for
the
second
ice session.
ICE SESSIONS
Players will receive instruction and lots of opportunity for individual
practice in the following three areas:
Skating: adaptive
program combining elements
of power skating with those of hockey.
Shooting: techniques
concentrating on body and
hand positioning.
Stickhandling:
emphasis placed on puck control and puck
protection.
DON’T FORGET !
This is hockey and
you
need to have all the
proper equipment. If you are a newcomer to the game give us a call and
we will assist you in any way we can. Also, this is a full day camp and
you need more than just your hockey gear, so plan ahead and check this
list.
Lunch & Snacks: we will have
a break for lunch and time for snacks between the ice sessions and
fitness training. (We will be checking the lunches the first day, so
watch
out for the junk foods!!).

extra
change of underwear for the second ice session, along with running
shoes and
training gear for the fitness training outdoors.
